Description:
The proliferation of dual enrollment has blurred the traditional demarcation between secondary and postsecondary education. Longstanding federal educational legislation, such as the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is one of several pieces of legislation that has been complicated by this blurring, as the legislation requires different expectations for secondary and postsecondary spaces. In their recent practice brief in the Journal of Applied Research in the Community College (JARCC), Ison et al. discuss these various secondary and postsecondary expectations and how postsecondary administrators can best assist their concurrent enrollment partners to ensure that all legal requirements under FERPA are met.
