Fostering Gratitude Among Our General Education and Dual Credit Communities
Date: 11/08/2023, 1:00 pm
Presenters:
- Dana Kelly, Student Affairs Program Manager, Idaho State Board of Education
- Dr. Jonathan Lashley, Academic Technology Program Officer, Idaho State Board of Education
- Dr. Heidi Estrem, Associate Academic Officer, Idaho State Board of Education
Description:
Statewide conversations about General Education and Dual Credit are strong but have seldom overlapped in Idaho. As a result, myths, misconceptions, and miscommunication between the dual credit and general education communities arise from time to time.
To build awareness and common cause between these communities, state leaders in Idaho organized a series of roundtable discussions about the design, administration, and efficacy of dual credit programs in the Gem State. Dual Credit community members representing diverse roles and institutions explained foundational aspects of Dual Credit to General Education stakeholders directly, and the resulting recordings augment onboarding and community support as learning resources.
During this webinar, attendees will learn more about the context, design, scope, reception, and future of this effort to build common statewide awareness and understanding of how Dual Credit and General Education meaningfully intersect.

Description:
This session will lay out the processes and timeline that the State of Utah has taken in creating systems of support for School Districts and students to be successful in Concurrent Enrollment experiences. From the State Board prioritizing college and career readiness to tasking staff with increasing access for underrepresented students to the legislature mandating that all students experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage have all fees they would experience paid for by their community, Utah has committed time and resources to ensure that the system is designed to ensure that all students are held to high expectations and supported in achieving them.
