Victoria Hill, age 21, was crowned Miss Georgia in June of 2019. Victoria, the oldest of five children, is studying vocal music with dreams of becoming a professional opera singer. When Victoria was still in high school, she decided to take advantage of Georgia’s Dual Enrollment program where she could begin her college courses tuition-free. I sat down with Victoria to ask her about her experiences with the Dual Enrollment program at a technical college.
When did you start the Dual Enrollment program at the Technical College?
I started at Chattahoochee Technical College in 2016. I was homeschooled and wanted to begin my college life early. I enrolled in English, Math, Psychology and Science courses. I attended Chatt for one full year before moving on as a Sophomore to study music at Reinhardt University
What did you enjoy most during your DE experience at Chattahoochee?
I meet some incredible people! I loved the teachers at Chatt! To this day, I still remember Dr. Lloyd and Dr. Hill. They were my favorite teachers, ever! I recently saw Dr. Hill and she told me she remembered me and that she was very proud of my accomplishments.
I also made friends with my classmates. We all became close and would get together on weekends to go over our science lab work or hang out in the library. I was excited to find fellow geeks like me who enjoyed the experience. I remember this one film project that a classmate Jonathan and I did in Dr. Hill’s English class. It was the worst film produced but we had so much fun creating it.
Chatt also offers free tutoring in the Success Center. I really appreciated the extra help. I am dyslexic and the people in the Success Center were always happy to help me when I needed it. I made A’s in my classes mainly because of the teachers and tutors.
What would you say to high school kids considering enrolling in Dual Enrollment at a technical college?
DO IT! Take advantage of the program! It’s free college – I mean, why not? Taking Dual Enrollment classes at the Technical College was an amazing experience and a great place to be. I cherish my experience there.
Go in with determination and work extra hard, you can accomplish anything!
Victoria will compete for the title of Miss America on Thursday, December 19, 2019, in Montville, CT. This will be the 93rd Miss America compensation and be broadcast live on NBC.
We will be cheering her on!
